ZZ Top, 3 Doors Down Cancel Alabama Show Due to Stage Safety Concerns

ATMORE, AL — The Gang of Outlaws tour stop at the Wind Creek Casino and Amphitheater set for June 9 was cancelled due to stage safety concerns. The tour’s headliners include ZZ Top, 3 Doors Down and Gretchen Wilson. Roland Castillo of IATSE 134 San Jose, head rigger on the ZZ Top tour, was credited for canceling the show, according to a posting on the website for the Event Safety Alliance (eventsafetyalliance.org).

“We’re definitely from ‘the show must go on’ school but had to draw the line this time when we found out that numerous hazards were present at the venue,” read a statement posted on ZZ Top’s website. “We couldn’t, in good conscience, do the show knowing that the safety for those on and off stage would be in jeopardy. We had hoped the situation would have been addressed and corrected by show time but, sadly, that wasn’t the case so we just had to ‘pull the plug’ for the sake of all concerned. We hope our fans and friends understand that the decision that was made was the only one we could abide in light of those conditions.”

A statement from 3 Doors Down read: “Due to circumstances beyond our control, 3 Doors Down and ZZ Top were unable to perform tonight at the Wind Creek Casino in Atmore, AL. This is due to numerous safety issues concerning the structural integrity of the stage, which included a significant risk of a potential stage collapse. 3 Doors Down would like to apologize to all of our fans who made the trip to see the show and rock out with us and ZZ Top. We will have more information at a later date.”

The casino’s management, which had suggested in published reports that other factors contributed to the canceled show, could not be reached for comment.
