Madonna’s MDNA Tour: Innovation, Cubed

LOS ANGELES — For her MDNA tour, Madonna’s Super Bowl halftime show director, Michel Laprise, teamed up with 2009 Parnelli recipient Jake Berry, Mark Fisher of Stufish, lighting designer Al Gurdon and video director Stefaan “Smasher” Desmedt on a unique stage and visual design. By the end of the first song, the stage floor reveals itself to be a system of 36 hydraulically-controlled cubes, each covered with 10mm LED video on the top and three sides, with video imagery synched to the movement of the cubes. The massive LED wall also splits into eight independently-moving panels. For the full story, turn to page 42.
